TO THE VOTERS OF HAYWOOD COUNTY, TENNESSEE: You are hereby notified the Haywood County Election Commission will hold A PRESIDENTIAL PREFERENCE PRIMARY on March 3, 2020, for the members of each political party, as provided by TCA 2-13-205, to select their preference for candidate for the office of the President of the United States for their respective parties and for the Republican Party to elect delegates to the National Convention of the Republican Party. In addition, the Republican Party has called for a COUNTY PRIMARY for the local offices of Assessor of Property, Road Commissioner Districts 1 & 5, Road Commissioner Districts 2 & 6, Road Commissioner Districts 4 & 10, and Constable District 1 to be held on March 3, 2020. The Democratic Party has called for a JUDICIAL PRIMARY for the office of Public Defender ñ 28th Judicial District, and a COUNTY PRIMARY for the local offices of Assessor of Property, Road Commissioner Districts 1 & 5, Road Commissioner Districts 2 & 6, Road Commissioner Districts 4 & 10, and Constable District 1 to be held on March 3, 2020.
FOR PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES ONLY: If you would like the Secretary of State to consider your campaign for the list of nationally recognized candidates, please send a formal request to The Honorable Tre Hargett, Tennessee Secretary of State, State Capitol, First Floor, Nashville, TN 37243. The other method for a party candidate to gain access to the primary ballot is to submit a petition signed by at least twenty-five hundred (2,500) registered voters by 12:00 noon Central time on December 3, 2019. T.C.A. ß 2-5-205. The petition may be obtained from the Division of Elections, 615-741-7956.
Candidates for delegate to the Republican National Convention must also obtain their petition from the Division of Elections in Nashville, 615-741-7956. The delegate petition must be filed with that office by 12:00 NOON Central time on December 12, 2019.
**All candidates, including INDEPENDENTS, for local offices that will appear on the March primary ballot must obtain their nominating petitions from the Haywood County Election Office. The filing deadline is 12:00 NOON December 12, 2019. The withdrawal deadline is 12:00 NOON December 19, 2019. Written withdrawal requests for qualified candidates must be signed by the candidate and filed with the appropriate election commission office by the above date and time.
